On the morning of May 6, 2022, at 10:00 AM, with the roar of the loader, LUILU Resources successfully completed the trial feeding of its copper system, laying a solid foundation for the full-scale operation of the project.
The project primarily includes the construction of a tailings dam, copper system, cobalt system, sulfuric acid system, and associated living facilities. With a one-year construction period, the project will have a processing capacity of 2 million tons of oxidized copper-cobalt ore per year, producing 40,000 tons of standard cathode copper, 7,000 tons of crude cobalt hydroxide, 100,000 tons of sulfuric acid, and 10,000 tons of liquid sulfur dioxide annually upon completion.
Since the official start of civil construction on July 6, 2021, the LUILU Resources team, with strong support from the regional center and the efforts of all Chinese and Congolese employees, overcame challenges such as manpower shortages, logistical delays, rainy season construction difficulties, and the impacts of the pandemic. Through careful organization, scientific planning, and effective coordination among design, supervision, construction, equipment, and materials suppliers, the team worked overtime, collaborated, and solved various technical issues, achieving "dual victories" in both project construction and pandemic prevention. Key milestones included the completion of the integrated warehouse, accommodation area, and offices in early October 2021; the operational startup of the maintenance workshop and fuel station by the end of October; the opening of the automotive repair workshop in November; the completion of the permanent living camp in January 2022; the commencement of water supply to the plant in mid-March; and the installation and commissioning of the stripping machine and generator sets by the end of March.
After 10 months of hard work, LUILU Resources' team braved both torrential rains and dry, dusty seasons. The employees, united in their efforts, quickly built a large-scale modern copper-cobalt hydrometallurgical plant amidst the grasslands of the Antelope Mountain area in Central Africa, fully demonstrating the team's high sense of responsibility and execution capabilities and showcasing "Chinese speed."
Looking ahead, the entire company will regroup, refocus, and continue working towards its goals, ensuring that each task is carried out with precision and quality, and will strive to achieve the full-scale operation of the project at the earliest opportunity.
